Honest

"To me, ultimately, martial arts means honestly expressing yourself. Now that is a very difficult thing to do." -Bruce Lee

In everything I've ever admired in my life, be it a piece of art work, a great film or a friend, there is only one quality that they all embody. That is the unrelenting, unflinching, pull-no-punches bullshitless honesty. Now many may think, well no shit captain sherlock, but honesty is more far reaching and expansive than one may think. The rigidity in which all of our minds are locked into a day to day grind often limit the scope of our own honesty. We become self-absorbed or complacent and that is when we lose that perspective. It happens all the time with me and when suddenly I realize how full of shit I am and how unwilling I am to let go of all that shit, well frankly, my own ignorance scares me. And for those of you who feel like they are less full of shit, you're not I guarantee you. The Buddhist philosophical concept of ego being the abiding place of all ignorance particularly rings true because everyone to some degree is blinded. When one is able to set everything aside, everything of self that is rigid, unflexible and crystallized, only then does that reflect the non-pretension mirrored in your intent and only then can one produce the most honest distilled vision. What separates the good from the great is that essence of pure distilled honesty is contained within.

I have too much to learn.
